Turf basics

This one day workshop is designed for beginners in turfgrass management or for more experienced professionals who want a review on some basic principles. This one day workshop is designed for beginners in landscaping or for more experienced professionals who want a review on some basic principles. This workshop will offer basics in turfgrass management, weed control, pruning, fertilizing, solving problems, avoiding problems and finding relevant information. Click here for more information.

Field day

The University of Arkansas turf field day takes place on the first Wednesday in August each year. The field day is located in Fayetteville at the Agricultural Research Center. Field day provides individuals the opportunity to hear the latest up-to-date information about new products and research studies as well as providing an opportunity to network with others in the turf industry. Turfgrass research tours are available for those in lawn care/landscaping as well as those in golf/sports turf. Lunch, a hat and an information packet are provided. An afternoon program on handling pesticides is also available for pesticide recertification credit. Click here for more information.

Arkansas/Oklahoma short course

This is an intensive 2-day introductory level turfgrass management short course. It is designed specifically to benefit turfgrass managers in lawn, grounds, or athletic field care that have not had a formal turf management course. The course emphasizes sound, research-based fundamentals of the why behind the how turf is cared for in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Topics are taught class room style and cover the fundamentals of: turf identification, selection, establishment, fertilization, mowing, irrigation, aeration, de-thatching, and pest management. The course is a cooperative effort among the turf science faculty at the University of Arkansas and Oklahoma State University. Click here for more information.

Advanced short course

This course works to build upon the principles learned in the basic turfgrass short course. More details to follow. This is an intensive 2-day turfgrass management short course. It is designed specifically to benefit turfgrass managers in lawn, grounds, or athletic field care that are looking for more training in turf management. The course emphasizes sound, research-based fundamentals of the why behind the how turf is cared for in Arkansas. Topics are taught class room style and cover the fundamentals of: turfgrass mathematics, soil, tissue, and water quality tests, turfgrass growth and physiology, management of creeping bentgrass putting greens, management of bermudagrass putting greens, lawn care application programs, environmental fate of nutrients applied to turfgrass, pesticide safety and handling, and environmental fate of pesticides applied to turfgrass.
